Inspired Hijacks
D. B. Cooper was the first man to ever attempt a heist of this kind. His success inspired multiple copycat hijacks, about 15 in total. Some notable ones include Garrett Brock Trapnell, Martin McNally and Richard McCoy all who were caught and charged with their crimes. In 1972, 31 hijackings alone had taken place. This was the beginning of tightened airport security and luggage searches. Planes became equipped with "Cooper vanes" which prevented the air stairs to lower during flight and a peephole was installed on the doors of the cockpit for the pilot.
